Easter weekend

Every year on Easter Monday, there’s a big horse event in the village of Hakendover. Due to the warm and sunny spring weather, lots of people from all over Belgium – but other countries as well – came to see the procession with lots of horses and riders go through the fields.

The tradition has a religious background – as is often the case with celebrations that date back to the Middle Ages. The horses get blessings before they ride out into the fields, which makes sure there will be a good harvest in summer.
